I met my wife 8 years ago on a Quark expedition to Antarctica. She from the UK, I from the USA, it took a journey to the South Pole to find each other on this greenest of planets, at one of it's whitest of places. It would be a dream for us to have found our love on one end of this planet, and to have it enriched with a journey together to it's other end.
On my Quark Expedition to Antarctica we encountered a hurricane, prompting an unscheduled overnight stay on Penguin Island. I had come to Antarctica seeking to follow in the footsteps of my hero Ernest Shackleton. Little did I know that I would get a taste of what Shackleton and his crew had to endure. It's one thing to imagine what it would be like to be disconnected from the rest of humanity and strive for survival. It's another to actually experience it and realize that there is only what rations are at hand and no magical means to be rescued. One can't simply wake up and find themselves safe at home. Minutes turn to hours and still you are there...isolated with no means to return to the world you knew. I came to understand Shackleton, "We had seen God in his splendor, heard the text that nature renders. We had reached the naked soul of man."
The unexpected is a part of polar travel. Aside from the routine posting of weather conditions, ice flows, and animal sightings, you can expect thoughts and reflections that go beyond the usual.
I love the beauty of the pristine North Pole as much as it's history and legends of polar explorers. Be prepared to become familiar with the likes of Peary, Henson, Cook,and Amundson.
Being an enthusiastic member of Chicago's Shedd Aquarium and having been a Docent at Lincoln Park Zoo, be prepared to become familiar with arctic creatures from the tiniest of lichens and algae, to arctic terns and foxes, polar bears, walruses, and even a narwhal or two.
I love to travel and all that goes with it. Be prepared to savor an occasional meal on
board, find out what's the most popular drink at the bar, and hear about friendships made enroute to the North Pole.

Hello everyone, we are finally near the end of this contest. Blog Your Way To The North Pole has been a journey in itself. I've rekindled old friendships, made new ones, and discovered new means to reach people.
I recall starting this venture with an initial post on my facebook December 4th 2010, and I'll end it the same way with a final post Febuary 15th. In between so much has happened, some of it expected and planed and some new twist of envents that resulted in shaping this contest. Reflecting back I recall the Front page article about me and the Quark Competition featured in the Northwest Indiana Times Newspaper. For those whom didn't see it you can go to their web site www.nwitimes.com and place Savaglio in the search and you will be taken to the article.
I can't thank the Chicago Fire Major League Soccer team and in particular Jeff Crandell enough for their support through out. In a previous comment here I gave the varous links to see the feature stories they have done for me and the posting of me on their web homepage and facebook. Stay tuned, the Fire will be announcing the winner of the 2 season tickets later in the day Tuesday February 15th. If I am able to, I will as well post the winners name here.
It would be a continuation of my dream to be able to present the Fire flag, should I be able to make it to the North Pole, and present it to the Fire organization in front of their fans during a game intermission. Likewise another ceremony in front of stadium fans may occur in a pregame ceremony for the Chicago White Sox Major League Baseball team. I was honored to have been showcased by my professional association, the American Association of Nurse Anesthetist. Thanks again for the plug on your facebbok and having me on your web homepage. I have listed these links in a previous comment along with that of ExpeditionTrips.com whom continues to support me with sharing my story with their travelers.
I want to thank all the family and friends that distributed and handed out those voting cards that I had printed, with my name, voting page link and Quarks web page address on it. Those cards helped immensely in being able to get the word out to those whom were not by a computer or have access to a smart phone. They allowed people to cast their vote at a more conducive time.
Thanks to my friends and family for hosting periodic socials and get together's . They were a lot of fun. They served to bring people togetehr whom otherwise would not have known or met me. It was nice to share in a bite and a drink. In the end the folks were captivated audiences that lent themselves to easily having their votes cast for me. Thanks to all whom attended.
I'm not ashamed to say that I have fished for votes everyday at web sites such as www.getonlinevotes.com . It's no secret that all of the current top five vote getters of this contest have at some time fished here. Not surprisingly many quit the site when some how they discovered other means of procuring votes. It's tedios time consuming work, but I do it as it does bring in a trickle of votes and it has substained me at times in keeping me in this race. I'm proud to have the distinction of being the top comment getter on that web site. It's an indication of my hard work and commitment to this contest. I'll take this time to compliment Lola Akinmade from Sweden at this time. She is one of my co-competitors. She too has worked this site with integrity and like me with a resolve committed to winning.
I hope all the work I've done along with all of your assistance paves the way to my dream coming true. I could never have done it with out your votes and support. There are to many names to mention. Needless to say thanks to everyone, from nearly every cornor of the globe.
The North Pole is one of this earths last great frontiers. It fills peoples imagination with so much wonder and amazement. Some peoples thoughts turn to polar bears and walruses, others turn to arctic explorers, eskimos and inuits. Today global warming is an issue that many feel is playing out in the North Pole. I would love to share all of these things an more along with the visual beauty of this expansive region of the world, with your readers. I would be honored to be the Official Blogger to the North Pole.

Deep thanks to all my friends and family for their votes and support. I would love to list you all but unfortuantely not everyone left a comment. Thus, I'll leave you all to read and scroll down the comment board.
I will take a moment to spot light a few that stand out.
JoAnne Strickland: whom keeps me grounded while still in the air, allowing me to vent all the emotions with which this contest brings.
The Vanko family: I'm fortunate to have such supportive neighbors. I'm a winner already in that I get to keep you as friends and neighbors long after this contest is done.
Dr. Patrice Thibideau: It warms and comforts me to think our love and friendship has endured the two enemys of any relationship, distance and time apart. Life blessed me when we met. Although seperated by distance and time zones, I enjoy knowing their is a kindred spirit out there in you.
The Cerullo family: Thanks for keeping me excited and up when the pitfalls of this contest bring me down.
Gerrado Villa: When I see and talk with you, I see so much of myself 20+ years ago. For you to think highly of me, makes me think I've done something right with my life. Thank you for taking an interest in me and this contest. I know that you can match what ever you see in me. You have my respect and friendship.
David Janisch: Life rarely goes in a straight line. Years ago, we were like father and son. I loved those days, and was sad to have them end. I am so glad that this contest somehow has brought us full circle together again...like father and son. Regardless of bloodline, you will always be family.
Last but not least, thank you to my Wife Kerrie and son Jovi. I've recetnly taken to telling people I've got 3 jobs, Ideal Anestheisia, the Blog Your Way TO The North Pole Contest, and my family (Kerrie and Jovi). Unfortuantely I fear the later is suffering from my lack of attention. It pains me to hear jovi state "sit papa sit" as he tries to have me join in watching his Thomas the train dvd together. I count the days til this contest is over, when ever occasions arise that I fail to give my family the love and attention, due to the commitment required to do well in this contest. Thank you both for tolerating my seperation of self and emotion at times. Know that I do this for all of us. I want you to know, how I so want to share this expediton with you Kerrie, and how I so want to be able to leave a leagacy for you Jovi, of how one can achive anything when they put their entire body and spirit to the task. Win or lose, I hope to make you proud of how I've competed. I love you Kerrie and Jovi.
