Blog Your Way to the North Pole

Everything is possible. To prove the point, a few years ago, I found myself sitting in the back of a Ute that two days earlier held three dead bulls. The Ute was being driven by Aboriginal Elder Ydimduma Bill Harney across every bump, pothole and rock toward an art site known as Moon Lady Dreaming. The truck was quite ripe, with blood spattered everywhere. Flies were having a field day. The mid-day sun enhanced the smells, and the lack of breeze made it all feel like an industrial kiln. Sounds like hell on wheels, right? Except it was glorious.

This was a unique experience that sent me camping in Wardaman Territory in the remote reaches of Australia's Northern Territory. Bill Harney, one of the last of the Wardaman elders, was documenting the dreamings and art for the younger generations. There was a sense of urgency and a sense of wonder about everything we did on this trip. I was so humbled to be a participant, and remain forever grateful to the experience.

As I said, everything is possible. To have an opportunity to travel to the North Pole, and write about it - what a privilege that would be. Yes, yes, I want to go - to see the farthest north and share the experience with others. So, here we go. I hope you vote for me!
